Larry Cammarata, Ph.D.
Larry Cammarata, Ph.D. is an instructor of Tai Chi and Qigong. In addition to teaching weekly classes in Asheville, North Carolina, Larry also teaches internationally at conferences and retreats. He has practiced these arts for over 23 years and has received advanced instruction from many Chinese Masters and Grandmasters. Larry has served as a judge for national and international martial arts tournaments. During December 2011, he was invited to participate in the First Health Qigong Seminar for International Instructors, an event that was hosted by the Chinese Health Qigong Association in Beijing, China. Larry is a member of the Certification Committee of Tai Chi Healthways, an organization founded and directed by world renowned Tai Chi Master and Qigong expert Jesse Tsao.
Larry is a clinical psychologist specializing in mindfulness-oriented psychotherapy and mind-body medicine. He is a Lead Faculty Area Chair of Psychology for University of Phoenix. Larry has practiced psychology for over 30 years and has expertise in the areas of mind-body medicine, clinical hypnosis, stress management, interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, mindfulness, and issues of midlife. He is passionately involved in the emerging field of mindfulness-oriented psychotherapy and is a regular speaker for FACES Conferences, an organization that brings together leaders and experts in mindfulness and psychology. Larry is a published author who was designated as an "Author-Expert" by IDEA for his writing, teaching, and service in the field of mind-body health, fitness, and wellness. Along with Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Dan Siegel, and other leaders in the mindfulness field, Larry is a co-author of a book entitled, A Year of Living Mindfully: 52 Quotes & Weekly Mindfulness Practices. He is a professional speaker and workshop presenter who has made contributions to local, national, and international retreats and conferences. His work on mindful movement was presented at the 11th Annual International Scientific Conference of the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. In recent years, he has provided professional training to health professionals in Asheville, NC, San Diego, CA, Santa Fe, NM, La Jolla, CA, Costa Rica, and Bali, Indonesia. In addition to his involvement in the profession of psychology, Larry is an instructor of Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong. He is also a professional musician and performance artist who has performed locally, nationally, and internationally.
